Maple treeThe most colorful fall foliage imaginable.

Maple Trees have strong roots to resist ice damage and high winds. And because of these powerful roots, this tree can live for hundreds of years! It's no wonder why versatile Maple Trees are the number one planted shade tree in America. You get the benefits of a shady champion combined with great drought tolerance and no problems with pests and disease.

In fact, Autumn Blaze Maples are actually demanded by cities and towns across the country as the preferred street tree in new developments. For extending the glory of fall color, you’ll love the fiery red foliage of October Glory Maple Trees. Maple Trees can hold color longer than any other tree!

Where Do Maple Trees Grow?

Plant your Maple Tree in an area that gets full to partial sun. We suggest that you plant in an area that gets 3 to 6 hours of sun daily, preferably in the morning or early afternoon. And as always, well-drained soil is ideal.

How and When to Plant Maple Trees

Dig a hole that is three or four times the root ball width and the equivalent size. Place the tree in the planting hole, ensuring that it's even with the soil surface. Loosen the roots out uniformly and tamp down to avoid air pockets.

Generally, we recommend planting in the fall. But either spring or fall is fine, as long as there's no threat of frost to freeze the ground.

How to Prune Maple Trees

Make your Maple Treecuts at a 45-degree angle using clean, sterilized pruning shears. Remove competing branches as well as weaker branches. Sunlight should penetrate your tree's canopy for the healthiest growth.

Maples Not Changing Color?

A few factors that come into play when it comes to your foliage turning. For instance:

  • If the weather is too warm or if it is not planted in a sunny location, the red fall foliage won’t emerge.
  • If the tree is 3 years old or younger, give it more time!
  • These Maples do not need fertilizer right away, so avoid overfertilizing.
  • Finally, testing your soil can help in determining why the red color is not producing.
